IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM NTS-ONLINE

To all NTS Customers,

A number of virus e-mails are circulating the Internet claiming to be from nts-online.net and other mail servers. These appear to be legitimate messages warning of virus traffic coming from your system, your e-mail account being suspended, etc. These messages are actually either an attempt to gather personal information (phishing) or a virus! Please disregard these e-mails. Do NOT open any files attached to them or click on ANY links they may contain. This action will cause your computer to become infected!

To assist our customers in determining valid messages being sent from NTS we have implemented the following procedure. This e-mail and ALL future e-mail notices sent from NTS-online.net will be posted to the nts-online.net website. To insure that a message from NTS is valid please do the following:

Open an Internet Browser and manually type in the web address for the nts-online.net webpage. (NEVER use links in an e-mail to open this page! It is possible for e-mail links to point you to another website without your knowledge.)
On the NTS-online.net homepage click on the link titled “Messages.”
If the message you received is not on this page it was NOT sent from NTS.
We highly recommend that all computers have virus scanning software installed and that virus updates are regularly applied. Additionally we recommend that all computers be regularly updated by visiting the Microsoft windows update link found in the Internet Explorer “tools” menu.

All of us at NTS are working to help make your Internet experience as enjoyable as possible. Please feel free to contact our Help Desk at 1-800-687-5556 with any questions you may have.

IMPORTANT NOTICE FROM NTS-ONLINE

To all NTS Customers,

It is my pleasure to announce the release of our new nts-online.net website. The new site will be available after 10:00 pm July, 13th. We have made a number of improvements based on customer input to improve the sites functionality and ease of use. We have upgraded a number of the features on the previous site and added many new ones.

Just as before the site provides access to your nts-online.net e-mail via a web interface. The site also allows you to pay your NTS bill on-line. Our search feature has been updated to use Google's search engine technology, the most advanced on the Internet. The weather tool has been improved and now provides the ability to customize the weather to display any city in the world! We have also added regional and national news feeds to our site to keep you up to date with everything that's going on.

Most importantly our technical support section has been greatly improved. Here we provide answers to the questions that our customers most frequently ask the helpdesk. Can't find the answer to your question in our support section? The site also includes live chat support. Now you can quickly ask our helpdesk a question without even picking up the phone!

I would also like to thank all of you that have worked with us over the last two months to help clean computers infected by the Sasser worm and other viruses. While we have made great progress in eliminating the worm there is still much work to do. We continue to see customers infected with the Virus.

Our filters prevent the worm from entering the our network from the Internet but we cannot stop all infections. I again ask that if you have not yet visited the Microsoft website to check if your computer is infected with Sasser please do so immediately! The tool can be found at https://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp.

A number of patches have been released over the last 60 days from Microsoft that will prevent your computer from being infected with future viruses and worms. These patches should be installed TODAY! The easiest way to keep you computer current with all patches is to use the automated windows update tool. More information on how to setup the tool can be found in our new support site under the "virus" heading.

All of us at NTS are working to improve our products to offer you the best internet experience and value available. The projects we are currently working on include.

Improved SPAM filtering utilizing the most advanced technology available. Our current systems block over 60 percent of all e-mail sent to the nts-online.net domain. That amounts to over 500,000 SPAM messages a day. The new systems will be even better!

E-mail virus filtering service. Soon we will be able to scan all incoming and outgoing e-mail to ensure they do not contain a virus that could harm your computer and notify you if an e-mail you send is infected.

We always look forward to your comments about your service. Feel free to use our webpage feedback form or contact one of our helpdesk technicians at 1-800-687-5556.

Thanks

To all NTS Customers,

Over the weekend the Sasser virus was unleashed on the Internet. This virus exploits a known vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows operating system. Unlike many previous worms Sasser can infect a computer without ANY interaction from the user! This allowed the worm to spread very quickly across the Internet. This worm automatically infects all of the following un-patched Operating Systems.

Windows NT® Workstation 4.0
Windows NT Server 4.0
Windows NT Server 4.0, Terminal Server Edition
Windows 2000
Windows XP
Windows Server™ 2003

The worm will not automatically infect Windows 95/98/ME systems. These systems can still be infected by other methods such as e-mail etc.. In order to help reduce the effect of this worm NTS has placed filters in our network to stop the worm traffic. These filters stop all worm traffic entering from the Internet and help to prevent infected customers from infecting other customers. While these filters help to prevent the worm from spreading they are only a band-aid.

The long-term solution to this problem is for each customer to clean the worm from their computer and patch those that are not already infected. We have been able to identify a number of infected customers. We are working with them to clean the virus from their system. However, as you can imagine with the number of infected customers contacting each of them will take quite a while.

If you are using a windows operating systems please check that your PC is not infected with the worm. This can be done automatically by using the Microsoft tool located at https://www.microsoft.com/security/incident/sasser.asp.

Additionally more information on the virus and tools to automatically clean your PC can be found at http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.sasser.worm.html. We continue to highly recommend that all computers have virus scanning software installed and that virus updates are regularly applied. A personal firewall should be installed on each PC or a firewall router that can be purchased from any computer store are also extremely effective in preventing these types of worms from spreading. As this virus has proven, it is essential that all computers be regularly updated by visiting the Microsoft "Windows update" link found in the Internet Explorer “tools” menu. The patch to correct this vulnerability was released on April 12th.

In addition to the patch for the Sasser worm there are several new patches for other vulnerabilities available on Windows Update including a new patch released TODAY! Windows 2000 and XP have automatic update tools that can notify you when critical updates are available and help keep you system safe from infection.

All of us at NTS are working to help make your Internet experience as enjoyable as possible. Please feel free to contact our Help Desk with any questions you may have.

Thanks
